Skipper Authority & Operational Guidelines

This document defines the operational authority, responsibilities, and decision-making framework onboard all Arctic Cruise in Norway tours. It serves as a decision support tool, expectation alignment for guests and guides, and a reference in case of disagreements.

1. Skipper Authority

The skipper is the ultimate authority onboard and responsible for vessel operation, navigation, safety, and all decisions regarding routing, docking, and anchoring. All decisions are final and non-negotiable.

2. Role of Guides and Guests

Guides and guests may propose routes, locations, and activities. However, all input is advisory only. Final decisions are made by the skipper and must be respected without further discussion.

3. Safety First

All decisions are based on safety. This includes current weather, forecasts, sea conditions, visibility, and vessel capability. Plans may change at any time to ensure safe operations.

4. Weather-Based Decisions

Arctic operations require flexibility. Routes and plans are continuously evaluated based on real-time and forecasted weather conditions. Pre-planned routes are guidelines only.

5. Docking, Anchoring & Landing

The skipper decides where to dock, anchor, and land guests. These decisions are based on experience, safety, and environmental conditions.

6. Respect for Property

Private property, docks, and land must always be respected. If access is not permitted, it will not be used. This applies without exception.

7. Vessel Capability

The skipper evaluates vessel limitations, maneuverability, and safe operating conditions. These factors determine where and how operations are conducted.

8. Communication & Conduct

The skipper will communicate decisions clearly. Guests and guides are expected to respect decisions and contribute constructively to a safe and professional environment.

9. Conflict Handling

In case of disagreement, the skipper’s decision remains final. Safety-related decisions are not subject to debate.
